Servings 1 large pizza

Equipment

  • Pizza pan or baking sheet
  • Rolling pin (if using homemade or store-bought dough that needs rolling out)
  • Knife or ghost-shaped cookie cutter (for cutting mozzarella into ghost shapes)
  • Small bowl (for activating yeast, if making homemade dough)
  • Large bowl (for mixing dough)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cutting board (for cutting mozzarella and olives)
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • Pizza dough store-bought, Pillsbury pizza crust, or homemade
  • Pizza sauce
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Sliced mozzarella cheese thicker slices for a 3D look, thinner for a flatter look
  • Black olives for the eyes and mouths
  • Pepperoni slices optional

For Homemade Pizza Dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

Store-Bought Dough or Pillsbury Pizza Crust:

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out the store-bought dough or Pillsbury pizza crust on a pizza pan according to the package instructions.

Spread the sauce:

  • Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving some space around the edges for the crust.

Add cheese:

  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the sauce.

Make the ghosts:

  • Cut ghost shapes out of the sliced mozzarella. For a more 3D look, use thicker slices of cheese. Thinner slices will work too, but the ghosts will be flatter.
  • Cut small pieces of black olives to make eyes and mouths for the ghosts.

Bake the pizza:

  • Put the pizza in the oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.

Decorate with ghosts:

  • After the pizza is done baking, place the mozzarella ghosts on top while it’s still hot. The cheese will melt slightly but keep the ghost shapes.
  • Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before cutting it. Serve and enjoy your spooky ghost pizza!

Homemade Pizza Dough Instructions:

    Activate the yeast:

    • In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast on top, stir, and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

    Make the dough:

    • In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then stir until the dough forms.

    Knead the dough:

    • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

    Let it rise:

    • Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-1.5 hours until it doubles in size.

    Prepare the pizza:

    • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Punch the dough down, then roll it out into a large circle on your pizza pan.

    Spread the sauce:

    • Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving some space around the edges for the crust.

    Add cheese and ghosts:

    • Follow the same steps as above to add shredded mozzarella, bake, and decorate with mozzarella ghosts and black olive faces.
