Refreshing, fruity, and perfectly smooth, this homemade Italian ice is the ultimate summer treat! No ice cream maker needed, and you can customize it with all your favorite flavors.
2cupsfresh fruit or fruit juice(lemon, cherry, mango, strawberry, blueberry, or your favorite flavor)
1/2cupgranulated sugar(or honey for a natural option)
1cupwater
1tablespoonfresh lemon juice(for brightness)
Instructions
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the sugar and water, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Let cool completely to make a simple syrup.
In a blender, combine the fruit (or fruit juice), cooled simple syrup, and lemon juice. Blend until completely smooth.
Pour the mixture into a shallow baking dish and place in the freezer.
Every 30 minutes, stir the mixture with a fork or spoon to break up ice crystals and create a smooth texture.
Freeze for about 3-4 hours, or until the Italian ice is firm but scoopable.
Scoop into cups and serve immediately, or store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
For extra flavor, try mixing fruits like strawberry-lemon or mango-pineapple! To make a grown-up version, stir in a splash of vodka or rum before freezing.
